Scanned the FAQs, read and re-read the installation instructions, and
still lost.
*Finally* getting around to updating AmigaOS to 3.5, and I'm
experiencing problems.
My set-up: A2000 in a Bomac Tower case. OS 3.1. EMPLANT board w/SCSI
Zip and Toshiba 4x CD-ROM (AsimCDFS) externals; GVP 50 mhz '030 board
w/16MB RAM; Mega-Chip for 2MB Chip RAM; internal 105MB HD, 240MB HD,
and 730MB HD (partitioned 1/2 Amiga, 1/2 Mac); internal Archive Viper
tape drivel; internal SyQuest 88; internal HD FD; external DD FD;
external Mac 800k FD (for EMPLANT, through Amia); and new external
Seagate 1GB drive off the GVP SCSI port. Video: Piccaso II driving a
Sony 15" Multiscan and OpalVision board w/A520 hooked to 19"
Monitor/TV combo.
Formatted the new drive with GVP FastPrep, made it DH0 (current boot
drive, DH6, is the 105MB drive piggybacked on the GVP board), copied
everything over from current boot drive, rebooted from new drive
without fail. Followed installation instructions for
pre-installation, rebooted when instructed and -- trouble. CD-ROM not
recognized and attempting to open any drawers locked up the machine.
Rebooted from original boot drive, played with EMPLANT, AsimCDFS and
Picasso assigns in User-Startup and Startup-Sequence and still
erratic problems which prevented going to Step 2 in the installation.
THEN I repeated the whole procedure, including the drive formatting,
and this time after copying over the existing boot drive I went for
the 3.1-on-the-CD update rout to ensure I was attempting to update
over the most-current version of the OS. This of course wreaked havoc
with the startup-seq and user-startup and prevented access to the
CD-ROM, whether or not I (on a SUBSEQUENT re-try) followed the
procedure to make sure the CD driver was installed first.
Frustrated and confused, I've given up for the moment.
